Random Gen has very few mountains and no water

  • I don't know why, but I'm trying seeds that supposedly have specific features, like a big lake at a specific X/Y coordinates. I played on another g-portal server that was spun up only about a month ago and it had great features, mountains, rivers, lakes...I can't seem to reproduce any expected results. I don't know why either, unfortunately, because the owner lapsed in payment and the files were deleted

    Does anyone know how to improve this?


  • Hm, I thought that was done by changing the game seed name and creating a new game. Is there something i'm not aware of?

    I'm not too familiar with the ins and outs of the game yet.

    It is my experience that changing the game seed name in 7d2d gives you a fresh map. There is an option to edit map once the game is launched. Since I generally play the map that is generated, I would suggest you edit the map before others join the server. The seed name is the save game you created. It will appear like this:

    I took 234 seconds to load at size 5 and less than 5 seconds to load at size 1. Basically what it does is allow you to see what your peeps will be spawning into. I tend to stay away from random gens that have high burn zones and lots of water. Look at a couple and see what you like.

    When you zoom in you can see the cities, and structures. It takes a little investigating, because you do have to have a general idea of where you spawned in. Locating 0,0 is a quick way to get your location and then find what's around you using the editor map.

    If you are versed in xml coding you can actually change your structures. I haven't advanced that far yet, because I like playing more than coding:)

  • I don't know why but I'm not getting the same results as others with my seed names. I actually do want water because I was building a really neat oil rig on a server that went down recently...I want to do it again.

    whats even weirder is that its the same version! What do you think could cause this?

    Also, that's really good insight into structures! Thanks for that!! I was looking at the xml files and there's some interesting things in there...I happen to be a web developer, so I'm very well-versed in XML.

  • Daenrys you might be a genius. I'm looking through the XML files and i see this

    <biome_spawn_rule name="water">

    <terrain_generator range="-31,-1"/>


    this looks like elevation settings, I just need to find probability and i should be on the right track

  • It turns out it's the mod...the new war of the walkers mod is what's causing my issues. I did a clean install without it and the water is exactly as expected. So now i just have to look into the WOTW mod files itself and see what went wrong.

    THANKS FOR THE IDEA!!! I know you weren't trying but you totally pointed me in the right direction. I'll share my findings if I find anything specific

  • Awesome, I haven't tried that mod and have just started with tinkering with the .xml files. Test servers make things pretty easy just need more time:) Take care and thank you for keeping us posted.
